The Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road Extension is a critical regional mobility initiative managed by the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority (FBCTRA) to alleviate regional traffic congestion and improve connectivity. Krest Engineers served as the Lead Drainage Design Engineer for Segment 2CA. The scope of work encompassed the comprehensive engineering design of the drainage Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) package. This included detailed stormwater management layouts for the toll road mainlanes, adjacent side street of Rabbs Prairie Road, and four (4) detention basins.
- Advanced 3D Modeling (Bentley ORD): Leveraging cutting-edge technology, Krest Engineers utilized Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD) to construct a fully integrated, dynamically linked 3D drainage and corridor model. This ensured precise spatial coordination, precise earthwork calculations, and seamless utility clash detection.
- Hydraulic & Hydrological Optimization: All drainage systems were designed and analyzed in strict accordance with the FBCTRA Drainage Design Criteria. The infrastructure was engineered to safely convey and mitigate a 10-year design frequency level storm event.
- Storm Sewer Systems in Superelevation Zones: Successfully resolved complex hydroplaning and drainage challenges in corridor transition areas. Krest Engineers engineered customized storm sewer systems tailored for superelevation zones, strategically placing inlets and optimizing gutter capacities to ensure rapid pavement dewatering.
- Detention & Conveyance Infrastructure: To maintain pre-development peak runoff rates and safeguard neighboring areas, the design integrated four (4) strategically sized detention basins with localized outfall structure designs.
- Side Street Integration: Managed localized drainage integration for intersecting corridors, notably designing the complete drainage footprint for the Rabbs Prairie Road side street improvements to fit seamlessly within the overall tollway drainage network.
