H&H Study

C147 Channel and Detention Basin Improvement

← Back to Projects

The project is located in southwest Harris County at the boundary with Fort Bend County. As the subconsultant, Krest Engineers utilized the baseline existing condition HEC-RAS 2D to refine the C547 basin designs to ensure it works together with C147-00-00 improvements to impose no adverse impact to lower C147 watershed and Sims Bayou.

The proposed C547 basin was modeled in HEC-RAS 2D as a terrain feature and the inflow/outflow structures were modeled as 2D connections. Various basin volumes and footprints were developed and modeled in HEC-RAS 2D. Different 2D Connection geometries and culvert sizes were studied so the inflow to the detention basin was optimized and the proposed improvements had no adverse impact to downstream and upstream of C147 Channel.

The findings of the study were documented in the Design Concept Report submitted to HCFCD for review, including preliminary design, HEC-RAS 2D modeling methodology and results, quantity takeoffs and cost estimate, benefit analysis, and recommendation of a preferred alternative.
